Engine balance is best treated as source characterization.

Before thinking about mounts, chassis response, or active damping, the engine must be understood as a source of periodic forces and moments. Crank layout, firing order, reciprocating masses, and geometry determine the harmonic content injected into the structure.

Once the source is clear, signal processing and mechanical isolation become meaningful.
